WTSIM... theme for January announced!

Buttonjanuary_grey_200_2 Happy 2008 everyone!!

After a short hiatus over the last month, our beloved food blogging event "Waiter! There's something in my..." is back. And it's none of Jeanne's or Andrew's fault - the break is partly due to the fact that I dropped the ball a bit, being incredibly immersed in studying and having lots of other things on my mind, but we also figured that we are no exception and you are probably just as busy with Christmas preparations, New Year's celebrations and what not.

We're kick-starting 2008 with a brand-spanking new theme for this ever-so-popular event, and I have chosen terrines. Yep, you heard that right, starting with a "T". No ueber-fashionable "verrines" here (although this would bea lovely theme for another WTSIM), we are keeping it traditional, if only with regards to the shape: as long as you use a loaf tin or paté mould, you're in business!

As for the filling, anything is allowed. Make a venison & port paté, a chicken liver parfait or salmon mousse, wrap it in pancetta, pastry or salad leaves, make it vegetarian (which is just what I am planning to do) or even sweet... the choice is yours!

Your post must be published between now and the 22th of January, which also is my birthday - there can never be enough tasty recipes for that special day, right?
Send me an email and include the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your blog's name
  • Your blog's URL
  • The permalink to your post
  • If possible, please attach a picture 200 x 200 pixels
  • and don't forget to include a link to this announcement in your post

What are you waiting for? Roll your sleeves up, get stuck in those recipe books and surprise us with that  splendid creation of yours - I can't wait to see it!

» Dessert of the Week - Basil Scented Fruit Terrine from Spittoon Extra
I've been playing with gelatine this week, with rather successful results I have to say. Never used it before so was rather dubious that it would work. A couple of panicky emails to Jeanne though the day ('it won't bloody... [Read More]

Was "bea" a typo, or a reference to the fact that Bea of La Tartine Gourmande really loves making verrines and posts about them a lot?

I'll definitely be participating! I've wanted to do a WTSIM... for months but they always seem to pass me by. Not this time!

By the way - I've tagged you! Check it out on my blog.

How exciting - K. has been wanting to make a terrine for ages, so now he's got an extra incentive:)
Glad to see that WTISIM is going to continue in 2008!!!

How funny, danielle… a Freudian slip of the keyboard, so to speak! Definitely not intentional, but she DOES make gorgeous verrines – maybe we should ask her to guest-host WTSIM later this year!

Great theme Johanna! Count me in!

Oh wow! This looks very interesting. I just got Thr Professional Chef cookbook/textbook from the CIA, and there is a whole section about making pates. What a great challenge and a good way to stretch my cooking skills!

Jenny

Looks good enough to eat :-)

Rats! I was really hoping to participate in this but as today is the deadline, I guess I won't make it on time.

If I'd managed to get things together, I'd have made a quasi middle eastern terrine with eggplant, tomato, onion. I was even contemplating doing it en croute.

Happy Birthday though!! I do hope the others are better prepared than I!

Oh wow just read that the deadline was extended, I hope I can make it this time. With still no internet connetions at home its a bit tricky but I hope I can manage!

I miss WTSIM :(
