In a period when I am going to be occupied with the finer things in life and probably struggle to get enough sleep, let alone cook a five-course meal every night, I feel like I have to step back a bit from blogging. At the same time, though, I want to keep this weblog interesting and relevant, which is why I have thought of a cunning way to keep you amused while I am "out of service". I am thus reviving an idea that was actually born years ago, but never followed through.
When I go travelling, I always struggle to find reliable recommendations with regards to the culinary scene of the country or city in question - in some countries you get at least a Gault Millau, which I have learnt to interpret over the years (I have never been a big fan of the Guide Michelin, to be honest) - but this only gives you restaurant listings. If you consult the numerous websites with user-generated content that have sprung up just about everywhere in the last few years, you are likely to find that the reviews are often unreliable to say the least... it is hard to find a like-minded soul at best of times, but when it comes down to restaurants, I become very wary of any advice I am given.
Which is why I tend to rely on fellow foodbloggers these days - who better to give you advice not only on where to eat, but also what the local delicacies are that you just mustn't miss, what the food trends are at any given time, where to shop as a dedicated foodie etc, so to make sure that you don't leave the country having missed a vital culinary spot!
Over the next few weeks, thepassionatecook will see guest writers, all food bloggers in their own right who are doing me a big favour here, present a culinary overview of their city... look out for culinary snapshots of Budapest, Dublin, Milan, Munich, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Tallinn, Weimar and many other interesting European cities. So if you've been looking for inspiration for your gourmet travel plans this year, you've come to the right place. Keep watching out for your favourite city guide while I try and get back on my feet a bit!
(And if you're interested in contributing as well, please drop me a line... I'd be very happy to extend the list!)
